The indications for the use of COBAT (carbobenzoxy-ß-alanyltaurine) are fatigue present for one month or more, weakened immune system, ‘brain fog’ and allergies. COBAT is effective in reducing fatigue associated with Hepatitis C (HCV) and cancer. COBAT modulates the immune system to decrease fatigue and allow more effective immune responses. In a small clinical trial, COBAT was found to be effective for reducing fatigue in approximately 90% of patients with chronic fatigue, hepatitis C or cancer.

Initial clinical trials of Taurox SB (containing COBAT) have shown that over 90% of patients with moderate to severe fatigue experienced a reduction in fatigue after taking it for 3-6weeks or longer. Preliminary data suggests it may also decrease the frequency of allergy symptoms. It may modulate cytokines in order to reduce fatigue and allergies. Conditions involving disruptions of the immune system and altered cytokine levels can result insignificant decreases in energy levels.

Integra TH by Allergy Research Group is another name for the same product. The suggested dose for Integra TH™ of 15 drops per day provides twice the amount of Taurox SB used in the clinical trial(which was 1 drop of 100% Taurox SB).This allows a great deal of room for adjustment when determining an optimal dose for an individual. Some people report a temporary worsening of symptoms when they start taking homeopathic remedies, and if this happens, they should consult their physician. Some people report more vivid dreams and a deepening of sleep along with reduced fatigue.

Another homeopathic preparation with usefullness in fatigue is called Taurox SB.

GLOSSARY

Allergy:  Hypersensitivity caused by exposure to a particular antigen (allergen), resulting in an increased reactivity to that antigen on subsequent exposure, sometimes with harmful immunologic consequences.

Cancer:  Refers to the various types of malignant neoplasms that contain cells growing out of control and invading adjacent tissues, which may metastasize to distant tissues.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome:  CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) is a disorder of unknown cause that lasts for prolonged periods and causes extreme and debilitating exhaustion as well as a wide range of other symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle ache and joint pain, often resembling flu and other viral infections. Also known as Chronic Fatigue and Immune Dysfunction Syndrome (CFIDS), Chronic Epstein-Barr Virus (CEBV), Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), "Yuppy Flu" and other names, it is frequently misdiagnosed as hypochondria, psychosomatic illness, or depression, because routine medical tests do not detect any problems.

Cytokines:  Cytokines are chemical messengers that control immune responses. They are secreted by white blood cells, T cells, epithelial cells and some other body cells. There are at least 17 different kinds of interleuken and 3 classes of interferon called alpha, beta and gamma and various subsets. Interleukens and interferons are called “cytokines” and there are two general groupings, Th1 and Th2. Th1 (T-cell Helper type 1) promote cell-mediated immunity (CMI) while Th2 (T-cell Helper type 2) induce humoral immunity (antibodies).

Hepatitis C:  Caused by an RNA flavivirus. Transmission is predominantly through broken skin on contact with infected blood or blood products, especially through needle sharing. Sexual transmission is relatively rare. Symptoms are almost always present, and very similar to those for Hepatitis B: initially flu-like, with malaise, fatigue, muscle pain and chest pain on the right side. This is followed by jaundice (slight skin yellowing), anorexia, nausea, fatigue, pale stools, dark urine and tender liver enlargement, but usually no fever.

Homeopathy:  A system of medicine based on the belief that the cure of disease can be effected by minute doses of substances that, if given to a healthy person in large doses, would produce the same symptoms as are present in the disease being treated. Homeopathy employs natural substances in small doses to stimulate the body's reactive process to remove toxic waste and bring the body back into balance.

Immune System:  A complex that protects the body from disease organisms and other foreign bodies. The system includes the humoral immune response and the cell-mediated response. The immune system also protects the body from invasion by making local barriers and inflammation.
